Participation

<p>Hedera Council members serve up to two consecutive three-year terms, with participation through designated individual representatives. Hedera Council Meetings

Council governance decisions and related discussions are publicly documented in meeting minutes, ensuring full accountability and transparency.

Hedera Council meets regularly to discuss and make decisions on key priorities, including network technology, pricing, security, and other critical matters. Strategic Partners are invited to open sessions.

Rotating Council Membership

The Council's dynamic structure rotates members from diverse industries, fostering innovation through fresh ideas and perspectives.

Hedera Council includes prominent corporations, institutions, universities, and organizations from around the world, each contributing their expertise to support the network's long-term stability and growth.

History of Hedera Council

<p>The Hedera network has benefited from Council governance since opening for public use in 2019, with founding members providing strategic oversight and driving critical updates and enhancements. The Council has grown to include 31 industry-leading organizations, from 11 industries worldwide, and their continued leadership ensures the network remains secure, innovative, and closely aligned with the needs of global enterprises.</p> <p>In 2025, Hedera Council added two additional partnership categories–Strategic Partners and Community Partners–which offer participation in working groups, networking, and marketing opportunities. </p>

<p>While only Hedera Council members run network nodes, approve updates of the network’s technology, and have voting rights, there are additional opportunities for Council participation.</p> <p>By joining as a Strategic or Community Partner, you’ll have opportunities to participate in working groups, support from Hedera Foundation, and preferential marketing benefits, including invitations to speak at hosted events and profile on the Hedera Council website.</p>

Open Source Codebase

<p>The Hedera codebase is fully open-source and managed by the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LF Decentralized Trust) as <a href='https://hiero.org/' target='_blank'>Project Hiero</a>, ensuring vendor-neutral governance and peace of mind for builders. With the tenure and expertise of the Linux Foundation, developers gain access to unparalleled industry collaboration and continuous growth opportunities.</p> <p>Hedera Council members have an equal vote in the direction of Hedera’s software and services. <a href='https://hedera.com/roadmap' target='_blank'>Hiero Improvement Proposals (HIPs)</a> offer the Hedera community a chance to provide input, and are initially reviewed by Hedera Council before being passed to the LF Decentralized Trust for further evaluation.</p>
